Sergio Oramas
I love music. I'm a scientist and an artist, and I'm from the Canary Islands.
I do research in Music Data Science, specialized in Recommender Systems, Natural Language Processing, and Deep Learning with audio and text. I got my PhD in 2017 at the Music Technology Group of the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, with a LaCaixa PhD Fellowship.
I’m currently working as Staff Scientist at Pandora/SiriusXM, the leader in audio entertainment in North America. I was Assistant Professor of Machine Learning at the Pompeu Fabra University and I collaborate every year in the organization of Sonar+D. I have more than 20 publications in top-tier peer-reviewed conferences and journals. I hold a B.S. in Computer Science, a B.A. in Musicology, and a Major in Jazz Composition.
I also work as a composer for films, and produce my own songs. I sing and play guitar, timple (a kind of ukelele from the Canary Islands), and synthesizers. I was the frontman of Supertrópica, and I'm currently engaged with my brand new solo project Muyaio.
I'm the creator of algoderitmo.com, a web to discover independent artists with a fairer recommendation algorithm.
